The procedure utilizes a combination of two evolved technologies and two techniques requiring advanced skills, each of which Dr. Wasserman has been utilizing over the past two decades.

The Compoments

Body re-shaping and contouring is achieved by the PAL™ system (Microaire™) as Power Assisted Lipo Suction, which is considered the least traumatic and most comfortable to the patient.  Former methods including ultrasound assisted liposuction have resulted in excessive tissue trauma and lengthy post procedure discomfort.

Laser technology, SMARTLIPO™, adds significant advances in lipolysis.  Dr.
Wasserman has extensive training and practice of laser energy over the past 20 years.  He has practiced laser use in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, as well as topically. The Center was among the very first (2007) facilities in Bergen County to adopt SMARTLIPO™ from Cynosure©.  Dr. Wasserman received formal dedicated training, achieving certification as well as hands on training with several of the regions earliest surgeons during the development of this method.

The third component is the technique of tumescent local anesthesia, which has totally eliminated the risks of general anesthesia and hospitalization and has been used by Dr. Wasserman for several years when performing endovenous laser ablation (EVLT) in the Center’s ambulatory procedure suite.  The invention of this form of local anesthesia by San Diego Dermatologist, Jeffrey Klein, MD, is considered the revolutionary turning point in liposuction in 1981.

The fourth component is the art and skill performing procedures on awake patients, which has dramatic advantages.  This allows for added safety, patient feedback and translates into a more gentle surgical technique and reduced post procedure recovery. Dr. Wasserman has helped pioneer performing procedures on awake patients for over 15 years during 99% of his procedures.

Dr. Wasserman’s broad based surgical training and devotion to aesthetics highly qualifies him as the Cosmetic Surgeon of choice.  Liposuction historically has been done almost exclusively by Dermatologic Surgeons throughout the world.  It is perhaps the best example of the distinction between Cosmetic Surgery and Plastic Surgery.  Other specialists, especially Gynecologists and ENT surgeons have contributed to liposuction advances.  Dr. Wasserman’s credentials and experience all contribute to his skills when performing modern cosmetic procedures.  These include Board Certification in General Surgery, Board Certification in Vascular Surgery and formal Certified Fellowships in Trauma Surgery and Critical care medicine.

HOW IT WORKS

SMARTLIPO™ liposuction is designed to eliminate areas of subcutaneous fat deposits that occur secondary to genetic predisposition and is not geared for the treatment of obesity.  Common areas include the lower abdomen, upper abdomen, flanks, bra fold, inner and outer thighs, chin areas and the arms.

The goal is reshaping and contouring the body and even in the event of subsequent generalized fat addition, the treated areas are permanently corrected.

The SMARTLIPO™ laser component melts the fat and very importantly addresses redundant skin due to its ability to firm skin by the affect of stimulating collagen (structure proteins) formation which tightens the skin.

THE EXPERIENCE

At Adara Wellness, our patient is thought of as a guest.  Our team of professionals is already familiar to you.

The entire process is accomplished in a private and inviting office setting.  As with all procedures for awake patients, you are involved with the treatment and thus empowered to oversee your own procedure. A fully equipped procedure suite provides a private changing area and photo preparation area.  The procedure room is open with a one way window view.

Mild oral sedation is used and there is no need for an IV.  You are encouraged to eat well that day and you are served snacks and refreshments during the procedure.  After the procedure is almost completed, the patient stands to assess symmetry and allows Dr. Wasserman and his nurse to evaluate the initial goals and make sure that areas have been properly attended to.

At the completion of the procedure, the staff assists with application of the appropriate compression garment and in depth post procedure instructions are discussed as well as what to expect over the next few days.  At this point, the patient leaves the office with their companion walking independently.

THE RESULTS

At the completion of the procedure, there is obvious immediate change toward the goal desired.  It is not unusual to drop 2-4 pants sizes.  The fine contouring process of skin tightening is just beginning and will continue for up to six months.

Because the fat removed is permanent, and because new fat cells cannot grow, the treated area will not accumulate fat.
